This photo of 5th Avenue was taken after I had visited the Rockefeller Center to photograph the Christmas tree earlier this week. The old building in the background is The Peninsula Hotel on 55th Street. Even though it was after 8 PM, the traffic in mdtown Manhattan was still roaring.
So do you have a favorite hotel or an interesting hotel story?

nice colors - speed - nice building in the background...a ver nice picture. We can feel the life around you.
Great shot!
Across 5th from the Peninsula there is the St. Regis, a very nice hotel also...
Having spent so many nights in hotels, I've a long list of favourites... It's easier when it comes to hotel chains: Four Seasons definitely takes the lead!
Wow...
This brings back lots of memories of the early 1950s before I went off to the US Army. In those days our largest city, Dayton, Ohio, home of the Wright Brothers and Wright Patterson Air Force Base, had department stores that flourished and at this time of year the stores all went out of their way to put on lavish Christmas displays to induce people to spend some time walking the streets looking at the displays in the windows. And the traffic was thick as flies. In a few years, though, those days were wiped out totally and that downtown looks as dead as a drunk tying to get warm in the cremation oven.
Lovely photography.
I wanted to describe the White Porcelain Duck I photographed this morning. I did put a picture of it on my Birds Blog as it is a new species I think.
I really need to learn how to do night shots. This is great. My little point and shoot doesn't let me take night shots.or if it does.... I don't know how!
This photo reminded me of a visit to NYC in the late 1980's. I'd driven there in my old beat up Suburu with a friend who had formerly driven taxis in Manhattan. He offered to drive me through the canyons of the city in my old car and I agreed - what fun we had zipping around, in and out of stalled cars, until my Suburu overheated.
Oh, I was younger then.
The traffic never sleeps in NYC, somewhat like Toronto!!
I drove in NYC once, many years ago... hahaha never again!!
Amazing picture, Ming!
Have a nice Sunday!
That's a great photo. I especially like how the lights are visible through the windows of the bus.
Hi Bud! This photo is awesome with the blurred effect and the reflections of the Christmas lights on the windows of the bus! The Christmas decor in Perth is sad - we've been re-using the same ones for 2 decades! Love the photo of the Christmas tree in your previous post ;o)
Ming, I usually stay at campings... hehehe but I remeber how hard was the booking at one hotel in a tiny town of Slovenia because the owner couldn't speak english, only his strange language (which I didn't understand of course) and we did communicate by signals at he end... it was funny :)
AND YOUR PHOTO ROCKS!!
Awesome photo Ming and a perfect depiction of New York - everything zooooooming by at a frantic pace!!! I love it :o)
I love hotels, but don't have a favourite one. Would love to be able to travel the world and stay in the luxurious Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton's - have checked out a few around the place and they're BEWDIFUL!!
Hope you're really really well :o)
Great motion shot...you're a pro!!!
I stayed at Le Parker Meridian 2 years ago (it was a free weekend sponsored by Pedigree) and loved their Burger Joint. There was a huge snowstorm that weekend and it was impossible getting a cab to bring us back to our apartment near Union Square....with our 2 dogs!
Great photo. The movement in it is brilliant.
I do, I do need to come again to NYCity but I no longer have the friend who could drive me through the canyons like a crazy cabdriver. I'd miss that part.
I love this. Great to see all the traffic zipping by. And the cop almost looks like a ghost. Cool.
Lights, motion, traffic :) Just as one would expect in a city 'that doesn't sleep'.
fav hotel used to be hilton when i had the gold frequent stayer card. there were free upgrades all the time. haha...
now... nope...
