Tree of Steel

This steel trees sculpture by Roxy Paine is one of three such structures that were installed at the Madison Square Park on 23th Street and Broadway.

So do you know what you are getting for Christmas this year?

I got a couple of movie passes (exchangeable for tickets at the theater) and two magazine subscriptions from my family. I also got a box of chocolate from a friend -- I already ate half of it.

I know that am getting some Starbucks gift cards and cologne from the relatives who always give those items, and a bottle of wine from the friend who always gives one.

I'm hoping for (but not expecting) some photo editing software. Oh, and a copy of Roxio Toast (which I am sure NO ONE will give me).

Oh! And I know for sure that I'll get a raucous, drunken, delicious Christmas dinner!

Well, is it late evening or early morning, I wonder? Can't sleep and your message popped up; what a delight for an insomniac!! The metal tree sculpture is terrific. Christmas? I prefer to be surprised, although I do know that I'm getting a porcelain necklace I've admired from an art shop. We're trying to scale back, except for the grandkids. Old habits are hard to break, tho. I want to thank you for the many visits and wonderful comments I received from you this year. It is my hope that 2008 will bring you much happiness, good health, and many joyous occasions. Merry Christmas!

Wonderful picture, Ming!

I have no idea what I'll get for Christmas. In a pinch, everybody pretends that Christmas isn't as important as New Year's here (=Japan). I do know that I'll go for a sushi lunch tomorrow with my son. His treat ^-^.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

About your question on Only Photos, in Holambra II there is no vineyard's plantation. You see a plantation of apple (cutting). On the other photos, you see cereal's plantation.

To be honest I don't really love Christmas time (except lights in cities) but I would like to wish you a very I wish you and your family a very very Merry Christmas and thank you about so lovely photos (and smart question) you shared with us !

I think the tree looks rather sad, lifeless, as if it had been the victim of a forest fire, and it will never be covered with leaves cos it's steel... it has no living heart. However I love the photo with the tree contrasted against the blue sky and the skyscraper.

Excellent photo of a brilliant sculpture. Love it. I'm getting a new camera, can't wait to use it. I hope you and other D.P.B's will see a difference in picture quality.

Ming, I know what I'm getting for Christmas--I'm getting together with family and friends to enjoy good food and fun. I’ve enjoyed browsing through your recent posts. In whatever way you celebrate the season, may your days be filled with joyous moments to remember. Thanks for your visits to my blog!

I clicked to soon! I wanted to tell you how much, as I was browsing, that I enjoy your views on your city and the viewpoint of your photos. My son called on my cell phone, and distracted ol' lady that I am, I just clicked!

Hey Buddy! so much for waiting till Christmas to open your gifts - you've digested some already! I love this pic, the steel tree is really unusual and very modern and the clock tower in the background is handsome and old - an oxymoronic photo? very interesting!
There are no pics from the Christmas Dinner, unfortunately- I was way to busy to even think of taking any photos. I had very happy guests who thought the dinner was very memorable, though, and Ming got loads of compliments for his Prawn and Bacon Linguine too! We were all happy with how the dinner turned out.
Have a Happy Christmas, Bud! xo

I have never seen a tree like that. I like the building with the clock on it. It looks so tall.

I do not know what I am getting this year. I know what I want, but doubt I get it.

I don't like this tree..looks so cold and lifeless.

Hmmmm....nothing for Christmas this year. And I'm afraid it'll be airline food for me on Christmas....:(

You have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Rather amazing coincidence that we both posted pictures of Roxy Paine trees on the same day, probably the only two pictures of Roxy Paine trees in the annals of CDPB. Looks like some commenters find them inappropriate to the season but I think they are very elegant.

I’m waiting to hear back from my sister about her plans for the week. I’ll drop you a note about meeting in the city as soon as I hear from her.
