Cable Car

This cable car goes from 3rd Avenue and 60th Street on the Upper East Side to the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. Although there are better and quicker ways to get to the island, this is probably the most scenic route.

So have you ever taken the scenic route to work?

It's so impressive, I had no idea there was a cable car there, it must be beautiful!
Oh yes, I surely have... back in Argentario, Tuscany, my drive to work was absolutely stunning and every morning I really enjoyed driving, listening to the radio...

I passed by this, the other day in a car, and wanted to take a photo but we passed by so quickly, before I could even pull out my camera.

Perfect shot!

I had no idea there was a cable car anywhere in NYC, how exciting!
The scenic route? When I went to work, I had 2 choices of route.... the highway or the country roads. I chose the country roads. And sometimes the country roads were faster than the highway which would be jammed with cars if there was an accident or bad weather.

Cool! I work up the block from there. Have never been out to Roosevelt Island, but might take the scenic trip one day just for fun and some photo opps.

On my NYC visit in spring, 2007, I took the cable car across to the island. Great views, interesting trip and on the other side a bus will take you all around the island and back to the cable car. Wonderful park areas with benches to stare out at the water and the skyline. I recommend it.

I used to ride that car a lot to play tennis on Roosevelt Island. It passes creepily close to some high-rise apartments. I'd hate to live in them and have people going by on the cable car every 20 minutes looking into my window!

It's how many of us commute to work and school every day from Roosevelt Island.
