SoHo Street Scene

I took this photo because of the interesting cobbled stone pattern on Mercer Street between Prince and Houston in SoHo. As you can see, the street is not level and there are many holes between the pieces of stone. I hear women wearing stelleto heels hurt themselves on these streets all the time.

So do you have cobbbled stone streets in your city?

Just a couple of cobbled streets but I think they are recent (for effect). I went to SoHo last time I was there and was amazed how touristy it was compared to the end of Bleeker St. area. I must give it another try this year and see if I can adjust my opinion.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a great week. Judy

"sous les pavés la plage" on pourrait se croire dans un quartier de Paris, comme "Le Marais"

"Pavers in the beach" we might think in a district of Paris, "Le Marais"

I can well imagine how hazardous this might be to a stylishly dressed damsel. Reminds me a bit of Acorn Street on Beacon Hill in Boston.

When I lived in the Village in the 60's you wouldn't walk anywhere near Mercer St below Houston, especially at night. I can't believe how clean and trendy it looks now. And, I'm amazed they kept the cobblestones.

My picture of Sheridan Sq in 1970 shows the cobblestones there, but they tell me they were removed years ago.

Oh tell me about cobbled streets and high heels!
I am mad about high heels and often suffer for my sins. In Canterbury we have a few and it is almost impossible to walk safely on them. Not only the heels get stuck in teh gaps but also the stones are irregular making it very hard to find your feet...

Ohh, I love cobblestones! Good thing I almost never wear stilletoes.

Cobbled stones streets in Tokyo: Hmm, not that I know of.

I'm not sure if it's cobbled stone streets or street and pavements worn out by biking scooters everyday -->leading to worn out previously-leveled pavements to cobbled-street look-alike.

The cobbled stone streets at your end definitely looks much better than here:O

Nice looking photograph. Neat and clean streets. We all had these kinds of streets where we live in Ohio. At one time even the smallest villages had them.

In the days before stop signs, they used to have bronze triangle-shaped inserts that fit into the brick pattern and cast in bronze were the letters STOP.

LOOL! Yes, we DO have cobbled stone streets in Lisbon... For women it is terrible, because the heels of the shoes keep getting stuck on the intervals of such stones, that's why it is better to wear tennis shoes or boots!!!

Regarding the song «Um pouco de Céu»: it was written and is sang by Mafalda Veiga, one of my favourite Portuguese singers. She plays the guitar wonderfully and is a really nice person!

I am glad you liked it!!!

Ah ah ah! I only now read the previous comments and Rose has the same problems with heels! Ah ah ah!!!

My solution is to wear more practical footwear until I arrive at my destination, and then put on the heels! That way I can enjoy the beautiful cobblestones without worrying about breaking my ankle!! Cobblestones are so much nicer than pavement. I love the way they sound under your car as you drive over them....

I love Soho. I don't love the crowds there.
I'm in utter envy of people who live there! A friend of mine lived on Sullivan Street in a tiny apartment on the fifth floor. Even that seemed cool to me!

Lots of cobblestone streets over here. But then, I life in The Netherlands. I believe we 'invented' those stones.

As I live in Paris, you know the answer to your question! There are still quite a few left. Not so nice when I'm on my small motor bike in rain. What is nice is that a lot of streets now are becoming pedetrian and then they get the cobbled stone pavement back!

Only in my driveway ;-)

I love the sound horseshoes make on cobbled stone...
(No, I'm not that old! I was just remembering that "Seinfeld" episode where Kramer takes over a friend's horse-drawn carriage for a week and feeds the horse Beef-A-Reenowas and then the horse uhm...passes gas during the entire ride on the cobbled stone street so all you hear is click-clack and...well, you know ;-))

No cobbles in my small town, but there are cobbles on some of the streets in Toronto specially between the streetcar (tram) rails.

WE have some fairly modern brick ones. I don't believe I would wear those high, high heels and try to walk this street.

Yes, Vannes is a Middle-Age town, so we have many cobbled streets and holes between them are really large! I remember some shops in this area in NY which were really funny (one with plastic chickens hanged up in the window like in a butcher's shop...)

Yes I do....and you're so right about the women in stiletto heels.

No cobblestone streets, but we have brick/cobblestone sidewalks . . .

Love the cobblestone streets....but none in Los Angeles. We just have lots of pot holes - tough on heels of any height.

Great pictures every day!

I love this photo!

We have cobblestone streets in parts of downtown Memphis, and along the riverfront.

Not to be pedantic, but there aren't any cobblestone streets in New York City. The streets that most people call cobblestone (like the one in your wonderful photo) are really Belgian block -- square, evenly cut, matching pieces of granite. Cobblestones are small, rough, irregular stones. Sorry, pal, but this is one of my pet peeves.

Here are images of cobblestones (not taken by me!): Cobblestone Church

Hello from Belgrade, Ming!

I like your photos very much and as soon as I figure out how to do a "my favorite links" thing, I'll be adding yours to my blog.

I've just posted a cobblestone photo, so have a look!
