Flowering Tree

I don't know the name of this flowering tree but it stands about 10 feet tall and is covered with these white palm sized blooms. It doesn't have any fragrance -- not that I could detect it. But I love the unusual green and white colors together.

Lately, I have been noticing (i.e. taking more than just a glance at) trees. I found that I love dwarf Japanese maples and fragrant peony shrubs. So do you have a favorite tree or plant?

Ming - it's a dogwood!
There are also pink ones.
Some years ago there was an awful blight that killed lots of them.
I think I missed the numbers day but will do some tomorrow.

Yes, our dogwoods are opening about now too. Those green nubs in the center are the actual flowers. The white petal-looking things are the bracts, not petals. I just planted a dogwood in my garden this year.

To answer your question, Ming, flowers and trees and birds and like people. All different. All speak languages and all smell differently.

This picture is of a flower just bursting with life.

I see a few folks have answered your question about what type of tree this is. This particular variety is called Cornus florida and is found all over the eastern and central U.S. It's the official state tree of Missouri, North Carolina, and Virginia.

I thought it looked a bit like a magnolia since I saw my first magnolia yesterday. But that one smelled incredible. But this is a beautiful photo!

Nature is so wonderful this time of year. Peonies are terrific as cut flowers: they last so long!!

I love lilacs and unfortunately they have a very short season. Lilacs bloom late April and early May, just around the time of my birthday, May 2nd.

Good closeup shot. Our dogwoods are already done for the season. We have a whole festival built around them in April, and the dogwood trails through the neighborhoods are quite beautiful.
