Climbers

What do you do when you can't see the parade? Climb up the scaffolding in front of a building?Hang on to a utility pole or sit on top of a telephone box? These people did whatever it took to see the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. Me, I just walked to the end of the street, away from the crowd, and watched the parade with my feet on the ground.

So have you ever climbed up a tree, a utility pole or a telephone box?

People amaze me. I'm like you. . .I walk to the end of the line and watch from there.

I used to climb trees all the time when I was little. I did it once after I had my kid. I was afraid of falling that time, so I never did it again. I don't know what it is, but as children, we're fearless. However, once we have a bit of age on us, we're fearful. Does that make sense?

Can't say I have!

I'm very jealous of your beautiful, clear blue sky and warm weather as indicated by the New Yorkers in shorts and bikini tops...it's getting winter here in Perth and I'm already over rugging up :o(

Wow sounds like fun in the sun as well! It must be hot there judging by what people are wearing. I'm a feet on the ground girl but I do need somewhere to lean as I do get tired easily standing up!

Hope you are well and the carnival was good xx

I would rather stay on the ground! Was never a great climber (except of some reasonable mountains)! The problem is of course to see (and possibly take photos) when you are not in the front line. I think that the special problem is the high number of professional photographers, always in front of the event and making an obstacle to see what you came for to see with your own eyes. (Next day you can see of course the event on TV or in the newspapers.)

I don't think I'm ever so adventurous to climb that high.

If I were there, I would be part of the crowd..probably it's the silly notion of always wanting to seen as part of something big :)

Anyway I have only managed to climb stairs :P

The photo on the portal reminded me of a zoo and a bunch of monkeys. I got here completely baffled and wondered where the monkeys were. LOL

There they are.

Like you I'd find a quiet spot away from the crowds. There's always somewhere..

In answer to your question. Too many times to count, and not only in NY either.

Really liked the shots from the met. Last time I was in town it rained and the \y closed the roof top garden. Missed the Kooons. Darn!

It looks like a crowded day! I liked your collage photo showing the colourful scene of the parade.

Come over to Cheltenham for a taste of colourful Greece!

With a good display sometimes it's enough to just hold the camera above the head of the person in front of you. At other times, different tricks are needed...

Climb a tree yes, but not a utility pole or telephone box.

Those telephone boxes, are they made to withstand people's weight? Maybe they are. ;-)

I've never climbed anything to see a parade, I usually just go farther down the line like you did. But I was an excellent tree climber as a kid - had to be, in a family full of boys. And Abe's comment made me laugh.
