Obama T-Shirts & Buttons

The election for the new President of United States is only a few months away (November 4) and one of our presumptive candidates is, of course Mr. Barack Obama. This is a historic event for the country because Mr. Obama is the first African-American/black person who has come this far in the presidential race. In addition, Hilary Clinton was the first woman candidate to reach the final two nominations for the Democratic party.

All these events mean big businesses for retailers and artists who are capitalizing on the occasion to sell t-shirts, buttons, bags, etc. Earlier during the week, I saw a booth at Union Square selling mugs and posters of Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton for $15/piece. I don't think either candidate receive any money from the sale of those items.

So are you an out-and-proud political activist who would wear a t-shirt supporting a candidate or are you a quiet voter who won't discuss who you would vote for at an election?

I'm always happy to discuss my views, but would stop quite short of wearing something like a t-shirt supporting my candidate. A small button, perhaps.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I talk about it, but I don't wear it.

The political landscape is a lot different in Europe. Granted, more people here actually vote when that day comes but we don't have anything near the energetic US process.

I'm a "neutral" Swede, with no right to vote for the French president, despite my 34 years here!

This is neat. It required a double take for me to get it.

I am utterly political.
Can't wait to see the back of Bush and his evil cronies who have brought low a once great country.
There!
I've said it.

I would don a tshirt for anyone running against our crazy mayor! (He 's only been in office 8 months, so we have a wild ride ahead.)

I like discussing politics with friends but not many people know who I vote for, and thats the way I like it!

I bet the candidiates wished they could get some of the money from these sales. It might help boost the campaign coffers :)

Great image. What fun. I can answer your question - I came back to France with an Obama sticker! My best friend works for the Obama campaign and so would I, were I an American.

Much discussion tho between her friends over Obama/Hillary but now that is resolved.

the best shirt i've seen this election year had a picture of obama triumphing over hillary. the caption was "bros before hos."

Yeah, I'd rather buy my Obama shirt from Obama. That way, I'm helping the cause and not some pirate tshirt entrepreneurs...
But that's just me...

I shout loud and proud. Well I used to before there became an almost undistinguihable different between the lying bar stewards. No T. shirts. As my partner is a political cartoonist for the BBC, he has to try and remian objective publically, and humiliate all of them and shout privately. Me I can't keep my mouth shut.

Because I owned my own store and my husband was in the media, I had to keep my somewhat liberal and very opinionated mouth closed. Now that I've closed the store, and he is successfully unemployed (I still refuse to use the "R" word!), I am a bit more verbal. I do try to restrain myself, however. I'm with Todd, though. Buy from the candidate and let them have the $$.
