Sammy's Food Cart at Jackson Heights

This is Sammy's Halal, winner of the 2006 Vendy Awards for the best street vendor in New York City. Mr. Samiul Noor sells his chicken and lamb with rice combo in a cart on the corner of Broadway and 74th Street in Jackson Heights.

I tried Sammy's chicken platter ($4.99) last night and I have to say, it is not as good as the ones I used to get from the Middle Eastern street vendor in Astoria. The Middle Eastern chicken combo came with pickled beets and raw onions sprinkled with harissa spice mix, which is super addictive.

So where would you go for delicious but yet inexpensive food in your city?

bravo for his trophy, I did not know that street'restaurants had a classification. It has just opened in Evry, a restaurant with a theme: all cuisines of the world (I think that advertising exaggerates ;o))) I'm going to try it.

I like the ortega burgers at 101 Drive-In here in Willits, in that price range. They have good milkshakes too.

A nice photo of Sammy's Halal.

We have a couple of places where we can get sandwiches that are meals and not expensive.

That is one sad thing about Switzerland, at least as far as my experience goes: delicious and INEXPENSIVE is a combination that has eluded me so far.

That's a no brainer. Sam's Super Samwiches in the suburb of Homewood. Best darn hot dog on the planet. He makes a special sauce that is the best.

There is such a wealth of great food in Jackson Heights! As far as inexpensive places, there is a truck that sells delicious tacos that is always parked next to my grocery store. Sometimes I forego getting groceries and just have tacos for dinner!

i ate at one of those "Vendy award Winning" stands the other day, I paid for it later. Ouch.

Hi Ming, thanks for the Birthday Wishes ;o) Street Vending is illegal in Western Australia, I'm not sure about the other States, though. Eating out is really expensive these days and the words 'delicious' and 'inexpensive' are never seen together in the same sentence when referring to food in Perth. Sad,huh?

Mamma Foos ...perhaps a chain...is very good here for fast and inexpensive....served with a nice selection of wine inside or take out.

I like super tacos on 96th/broadway, especially the Sopes.

Delicious and inexpensive do not coexist in my town. Alas.

I love the hot pretzels and chestnuts sold by NYC street vendors, not to mention zeppole and funnel cakes sold at our street fairs.

At home, try this. Cheap, delicious and pretty. Takes very few ingredients and only 10 minutes to make.

lol, I love these carts. They're for the intrepid eaters.

I've only eaten from a few, and they're surprisingly good. There is one in Soho around Lafayette and Spring Street that is pretty good, but I dunno where my 'pretty good' falls on your cart food scale!
