Van Leeuwen Gourmet Ice Cream Truck

I noticed this Van Leeuwen Artisanal Ice Cream truck parked outside Trader Joe's on 14th Street between Lafayette and 3rd Avenue last weekend. There was a long queue for the ice cream and the flavors sounded interesting. Even the sign board was arty and distinctive.

I didn't get a chance to try the ice cream here because I was on my way to dinner and didn't want to ruin my appetite. But I got to say, the ginger and giandujia flavors sound foreign to me.

So what is the oddest flavored ice cream you have eaten?

cake batter-I didn't care for it, too moist believe it or not! I usually like vanilla the best.

Interesting. An ice cream truck for grown-ups!

The oddest flavor of ice cream I've eaten? Saffron-Rose Water at a Persian restaurant in Tysons Corner, Virginia, and Tomato Ice Cream at Palette in the Madison Hotel here in D.C. (And I've lived in the SF/Bay Area, where food is king. Never ate odd ice cream there. I wonder if it's an East Coast thing?)

That is one slick ice cream truck. Looks neat to me. Well done post, ming.

We get those, "Hello," rolling stubby, trucks, in our neighborhood and we are mostly senior citizens or beyond.

Not far from Arradon, in Carnac (the place where are these big stones called "menhirs" and large sandy beaches), there is a place where you can try some very strange ice creams among 170 possibilities, like Nutella-Schtroumpf-Tagada (I let it in French to be odder!)

Yum, ice-cream! I haven't seen an ice-cream truck in years. Literally. Except on telly. And here. Yummy!

I'm never very adventurous with food, the weirdest I've had is Milo...and it was only weird coz of how it tasted!

Looks like a fresh and inviting place. My favourite Indian veggie restaurant make their own ice cream. Noone has ever heard about their flavors but they look and taste great... ;)

Color me not very adventuresome - coconut!

Ahh...ice cream! In summer, the ice cream trucks cruise our neighborhoods seeking out kids like the Pied Piper. Anytime is a good time for ice cream. Ciao!

Oddest flavored ice cream? Corn and avocado ice cream in the town of Lares in Puerto Rico.

Gourmet ice cream truck, should have known that was coming. I am a homemade peach ice cream gal. Won't veer off the beaten path in the ice cream category. The BEST ice cream I have ever had???? Chocolat in Paris, of course.

Garlic ice cream in Nice, France. It just had to be tried at least once. Can't say ot was my favourite, but t was certainly dfferent. Not as oddd as the battered mars bar had in St Andrews, Scotland though. Heart attack snack bar!

Wasabi at Sonny's in South Minneapolis, it was awesome for a couple bites but not for a whole dish!

How appropriate for summer...the ice cream truck! I am not a fan of ice cream as it does not like me much but if I was able to eat much...I am boring...just straight up vanilla...those odd, weird flavors, I leave for the hubby who loves them....can't imagine what ginger and giandujia might taste like.....

I've had ginger ice cream, and it's great! You should have had some, Ming!

One of the flavors featured at JD Redhouse here in Willits this week was "mushroom"! No, I haven't tried it! I had the blackberry chocolate chunk instead.

In Gilroy, California, they have a Garlic Festival with, of course, garlic ice cream. Stockton has probably done something like it with asparagus as well. 8^)

I'm going to have to look out for that truck. In the Philippines, we had cheese & corn combination and it was actually really good. I know it sounds odd.

No ice-cream trucks in France, believe it or not.

For ages my favorite flavors were lemon and hazelnut (no, not together). I've never had anything more creative than pistachio or tiramisu.

Ming - you brought back memories of a ketchup-flavored ice cream experiment. Not good memories, just...memories.

I've always had conventional flavors in my ice-cream. CHOCOLATE! ;)

Oh, ginger ice cream sounds refreshing! It's already "sharbet degrees" here. Ice cream is too sticky in this heat.

Just yesterday, they talked about Natto (fermented beans) in vanilla ice cream on TV and how delicious it is. Also very healthy. I have not tried it and can not comment...

PS: I haven't eaten an ice cream yet I didn't like ^-^ .

The weirdest ICe Cream I've ever tried was this kind that was chocolate with Cayanne Pepper in it. I wish I could remember the name of it. My sweetie would know, but he's at work right now so I can't ask him. But it was at this place in the cities called Sabastian Joe's. And I couldn't believe somebody thought to put Cayanne Pepper in ice cream!!

WOW.... I must have missed this one, especially since I live right around the corner.

I love ice cream, but these days I'm sticking to lower calorie sorbets and fat free yogurts.
