This is the W Hotel Union Square, located on the northeast corner of the park. The building itself has been there for decades before the W Hotel chain took over and converted it into a boutique hotel. The external façade were kept the same while the inside were gutted and turned hotel rooms.Notice the flight of fire escape stairs on the right of the building. Imagine trying to climb down or worst, climb up those stairs. So are you a stair climber or an elevator rider?

somedays i will walk many many flights up.
other days, i will take the elevator. (or super lazy days, even for 1 floor)
Sadly an elevator girl. I did however climb to the dome of the Sacre Coeur ( due to an unfortunate misunderstanding) and lived to tell it and take a few photos in my oxygen deprived state. Do it again? HA!

I saw your blog and found a piece of history your camera recorded. It is a blink, stopped dead-still, exposing a moment in time and the beauty you saw in the building with the big fire escape.

Now I have to go see this building. How have I missed it?
Anyway, I like taking the stairs but only if it is a clean well lighted space.
That fire escape makes a great pattern.
I'm a stair climber, unless I'm going higher than the 6th floor. Then, you know, the oxygen thins out at higher altitudes. ;-)
hmm ... guess it depends on whether the stairs go up or down :)
I'll bet this is one of those hotels I could have easily found a $400+ per night room last week.
Not too many elevators in Willits! But now I'm so out of shape, I'd have to take the elevator in this building. But if there were a fire, I'd be happy to go DOWN those stairs.

Well, I live on a third floor walkup - no choice there. Although some days, when I fancy a bike ride, I really wished we had an elevator.
