Battery Park Vista

Old architecture juxtaposed new ones in Battery Park at Lower Manhattan. The neighborhood was built on reclaimed land on the southern tip of Manhattan to attract more residential population to an otherwise, downtown business district.

So are you more of the downtown type (i.e. hip & cool) or the uptown kind (i.e. posh & sophisticated)?

N.B.: Excuse the "dust particles" in the sky.

I used to live downtown but when you move away you have to hand in your hip and cool.

I'm not posh. I think I"m sophisticated but nobody else does.

It's a cool shot Ming.

Lord know I am none of those but hope I come somewhere close to sophisticated. Oh who am I kidding, I 'm not sophisticated either, but I'd like to be.

I like that old buildiing with the bright orange brick in the center Ming.

You should mention that the tall wall of blue glass to the right is 17 State Street, one of my favorite buildings in the city.

I used to live downtown in Sacramento. I could never afford "uptown", and now I'm more Hicksville.

Hi Ming! Here I am on my weekly visit! And this week we have beautiful Battery Park, the amazing water NYC water towers, a surprising kayak, the wonderful Brooklyn Library, and last but not the least, my favourite, the Urban Ballerina... ;)
Have a great weekend!

You need a particle remover. Not canned air. I bought mine in 1954 in Japan. It might now be unique in the world. Then it was only about two or three dollars when the Yen was 360 per dollar.

It looks just exactly like a tube of lipstick. Take the cap off and screw the bottom and out pops the softest brush in the world. It was then made just for cameras and might still be available. I still have mine after all these years and must take a picture of it and let everyone see it.

I like the portrait of these buildings and can imagine they hold a lot of people who no longer want the commute and the lawns and all that goes with living in the suburbs.

I'm definitely more the rural type than the downtown type... but downtown is great to visit for a day of sightseeing!

Definitely downtown.... it's got an "edge" that's missing uptown.

My son lived in BPC for a year and loved it.... until his rent increased by 25%.

Beautiful shot today. Such a wonderful blue sky. I'd love living in a high-rise in either location, it's affording it that could be the problem.

The brushes Abe describes are still around or something very similar. I have a fancy schmancy one that even has an liquid applicator on one end. But if the dust has somehow gotten inside the lens none of this is going to help.

One minor point, make sure you ask for a particle remover and not a particle accelerator. They're different although a particle accelerator will solve the problem too.

Oops, I just saw Anons question. I questioned the way I worded that at the time.

Try, I had to 'relinquish' or 'give up' or 'give back' my hipness and coolness.

I never actually had any hip or cool but that will be obvious by now.

But that doesn't make you a hick Elaine. Hicks are the people who don't know they're living in Hicksville.

Oh I'm definitely all of the above :)

Abe, the "particle remover" you describe won't do a lick of good with Ming's camera. Sealed optics, not removable lens. Ming's problem with his small Canon point and shoot is one of dust on the sensor. Only solution is sending it to Canon for cleaning. Probably not cost effective, however. The more time consuming way around the dust spots is via Photoshop or another editing software program.

I have the very same camera that Ming does (Canon PowerShot A550), so I hope this doesn't happen to me! The retracting lens cover has started to stick, and I have to push it out of the way sometimes. I'm worried.

I like to think I'm a bit of both! I like the contrast of the buildings :)
