Roosevelt Island Tram

I took this photo last Sunday when I was on my way to Bed, Bath & Beyond on 61st and 2nd Avenue on the Upper East Side. The Roosevelt Island Tram happened to approach my direction as I was walking east so I took out my camera and snapped a few quick photos before going on my merry way.

So have you ever been on a cable car before? If so, where was it at?

Yes, I've been on the Roosevelt Island tram to go and play tennis on Roosevelt Island before.

My first ride of that type was at the World's Fair in New Orleans in 1984. I was terrified!

Yes! In the Dolomites mountains! Quite scary, I must say! I've been on the "easy" ones, not to high, and on a really high one when in the last bit you go up vertically with the rock in front of your face...

Yes, of course I have been in a number of cable cars... but not this one! And you?

In the Alpes, I used several times a cable car to go skiing. At the top, we could see the Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in Europe.
It was so beautiful.

Is that really how people can get about in NYC? Or is it a fairground style ride? I think I would be OK on it as long as it didn't sway in the wind. Then I might need a bucket!

I've never been in a cable car because I always think of those disaster films where the bottom falls out or it ends up hanging on to the wire by a thread. Knowing my luck that would happen to me!

Nice photo, Ming.
I'm wracking my brain (or, rather, my memory), and think I must admit that I've never been on a cable car. Since I live in NYC, that should be easy to fix—guess I'll be going to Roosevelt Island!

Nice photo, Ming! We took the Roosevelt Island tram last visit to the city. (My friend's aunt lives out on the island.) It was spring and nice weather to walk around.

Have been on other trams and cable cars. Always fun....like a Disneyland ride.

I just wouldn't have expected something like this. But it makes as much sense as a subway to me.

I've seen this one when I was in NYC in May but I didn't try it. But I've been in several Cable cars in Southern Germany to go on the mountains of the German Alps.

Took the cable car up to the Zugspitze, highest mountain in Germany at Swiss border. Quite steep and long.
