A Study in White

This is the ceiling by the entrance to a building on Mercer Street in SoHo. I was about to walk through the door when I noticed the decorative panels on the wall. Then I looked up and saw this old lamp and leave patterned crown molding on one of the pillars. How beautiful is that?

So what is beautiful to you?

This is very beautiful Ming. You have a great eye!
Like anyone else, I love looking at all things beautiful and always want to see more beauty, but what is most beautiful to me is kindness.

You always have simple yet thought provoking questions in your posts Ming.

Beautiful to me: any flower especially roses and tall verbena, babies, our grandchildren, and like you- old NY architecture. I can stand for 1/2 hour looking at the entrance of a building.

Your photo today qualifies in the beauty department. Alas, this type of decoration just doesn't happen in today's construction world.

Those were the days when detail was in and before cracker box architecture became popular.

I love the little details in life, to me they are beautiful and what distinguishes one thing from another in its originality. Like Abraham Lincoln says, before cracker box architecture was popular.
Other than that what do I find beautiful?
The light in a persons eyes when they're excited about something or someone; sunsets, flying "v" formation of geese, lots of them; and mostly the thing I find most beautiful in this world is the love 2 soulmates share together.

Well, to answer your question; there is much which is beautiful (e.g. lovely ladies), but nicely decorated buildings like this one makes certainly part of it.

Wow, just today I was on Mercer Street after doing a little bit of shopping. Very nice area, personally I think Manhattan is just beautiful. It's more than just a visual thing, the experience is overwhelming lol.

You're so observant Ming! Guess that's why you take such great photos. The sound of babies laughing and children playing are two of the most beautiful things in the world to me.

I have a soft spot for Soho. I really love all the old details.

It's too bad we no longer build that way!
