Argosy Bookstore

This is the entrance to Argosy Books, one of the few independent bookstores left in New York City. Located on 59th Street between Lexington and Park Avenue, it specializes in rare and old books, maps and prints, which makes it somewhat immune to big store chains like Barnes & Noble and online retailers like Amazon.com that sell mostly new fiction and non-fiction books.

So what kind of books do you usually read?

Novels about killers (like Silence of the Lambs and Kiss the Girls), historical/political/economic works (1000 Years for Revenge), Freakanomics), and some odd ones mixed in here and there (Steve Martin's Memoir!).

I spend too much time doing this but I do read some photography and Paris books. I am going to take a French class so hopefully I will be a good student and read my assignments! I like this independent bookstore Ming! We need them!

I have to admit, in the last year I've mostly opened reference books, and occasionally books of history and art and science. I can't remember the last novel I read. It might have been a re-reading of Pride and Prejudice.

Oh, I like this independent book store, it has such an old times charm, it reminds me of Daunt Books in Marylebone, London. Lovely.

I've never been to this bookstore before. I'm going to have to go check it out. Did you buy anything while there?

"rare and old books, maps and prints"

Sounds fabulous! I'd love to visit it.

My mainstays are science fiction, history, historical fiction and young adult fantasy but I pretty much read anything and everything that sounds interesting or that interests me at the moment of choosing. My day is never complete without at least 30 minutes of reading. Right now, I'm reading a revisionist history of Genghis Khan — fascinating!
