A Bird in the Bush...

This photo would have been perfect for Christmas Day but it was taken yesterday morning. I was less than 3 feet (1.5 meters) away but the bird ignored me and continued eating red berries from the holly bush while I took over a half dozen photos of it. It was probably thinking, "How rude!"

So do you think it is rude to take photos of people (or animals) while they are eating?

The little guy may have had a bit of a buzz on. Friends who know about birds suggested to me recently that some of the berries the birds eat may be somewhat intoxicating.

He's/She's very photogenic in any event.

Only if you get caught :)

That's a healthy looking shrub too. I took and posted a photo of someone eating not too long ago, but they knew I was doing it. It's one of my favorite photos.

Hey, have you decided on your "Best Photo of the Year" theme day post yet?

Very nice, Ming! And Wayne may well be right about the intoxication. When I was a child we had a Mountain Ash tree which fed Waxwings during the winter. However, repeated freezing and thawing of the berries gave the berries a certain amount of alcohol content, and the birds would get drunk, then fly mistakenly into our breakfast room window. I remember a couple of winters nursing injured Waxwings back to health.

I am cavalier about the photos I take of animals, but When it come to people I tread lightly.

That Is a great close up of the bird and berries.

Have you noticed that in most French films people are eating - and drinking, sitting around a table, enjoying themselves?

It is normal. Some birds defend their food source from everything. This is a Northern Mockingbird, I think, or it looks like one. Nice shot.

You did the right thing: shoot then think about it and, may be feel sorry... Too cynical?

When I saw this in the portal I thought it must be a fake bird from a craft store, it looks so perfectly posed! Love photo. -Allie

Goodness, another garden shot. It suddenly doesn't feel like New York City - or rather one we don't see often. Super shot.

Hi Ming! Hope you had a great holiday season and wish you a 2009 much better than we can anticipate and at least as better as if your dreams come true!
Health, Peace, and… some money to spend… ;) on your trips to Italy (and why not Portugal?).
Usually don't take pictures to people, unless they ask for... ;)
As for Blogtrotter, it’s visiting the Red Fort in Delhi. Hope you enjoy and have a great week!

Yep, that bird had a buzz on. And Peter's right. Maybe this guy could star in a French film!!!

Ming, good capture even if he was too intoxicated to notice you in his face.

I think the bird was mocking you, though.

That is too perfect of a photo! It's wonderful.

I think it's ok to photograph animals while they're eating.
