No Horn Blowing

Impatient NYC drivers have a tendency to use their car horns excessively. There are several neighborhoods that have special ordinance against using the horn unnecessarily. I posted a street sign from East Village over a year ago and here is another one found in SoHo.

If I were the Mayor, I would institute a new city regulation that would charge driver $0.25/per honk after the first 10 honks each month. It will definitely help close the budget deficit we are facing right now.

If you were the Mayor, what would you do?

I've never seen a sign like this! I've seen "please minimise compression braking" but that's about as close as I've seen!

BTW, is that a giant grasshopper on the sign above?

la ville de NYC est déficitaire ? je savais pas, il faut sauver le soldat New York (pourtant avec tous les touristes, cela doit rapporter beaucoup d'argent). J'espère que NYC ne reviendra pas aux années 70.

the city of NYC has a deficit? I did not know. it Saving Private New York (though with all the tourists, this has lots of money). I hope that NYC will not return for 70 years

Street signs are often funny and I think this is true everywhere.

What a great sign. I think I might be guilty from time to time myself. If I lived in NYC.... well I wouldn't drive in all that insanity. Your plan sounds like something your mayor should initiate. It would definitely fill the coffers Ming.

I think danger is a very good reason to blow your horn, and it seems to me that NYC streets have a reputation as being some of the most dangerous streets there are!

Should it say, "No Horn Honking" ? haha.

There should be signs that say "do not get too close to pedestrations" or some sort of illustration to show that it's wrong to get just one inch away from someone when they are crossing in the middle of the street.

Speaking of horn honking - do you know if a 'New York minute' is the time between the lights changing and the car behind the front car honking its horn? Or have I just made this up or imagined it!

I'd ban cars and there horns for starters. Get everyone out walking. Could be even more chaotic I know. I like your idea of pay per honk though. So are the biggest honkers for Yonkers?

A teacher in my building told my class today that she charges one dollar for every time she has to remind a child to tie thier shoe... it's to pay for her kids' college. Times are tough!
