You don't have to go to McDonald's for the $1 menu any more. It seems like a number of restaurants in the East Village (all within half a block of each other) are offering their own version of $1 menus including the $1 falafel sandwich, the $1 pizza slice and the $1 sushi.
So what can you buy for US$1 at where you live?

Man, I don't think I would trust $1 sushi...
well, in india for the equivalent for 1USD is about 50Rupees.. and for 50Rs you can get a gourmet meal!
i could totally go for a one dollar filafel. In chicago you can buy... a rose...a can of keystone light, and one of an assortment of candy bars. truly a dollar is not what it used to be.
wow, stiff competition!
Sadly I don't know of any meals that costs less than a dollar here, though I haven't been to McDonalds in ages, so...?
Pretty much the McDonald's $1 menu and then there's always the 99cents store.
Dollar a slice of pizza-not bad.

I've had the dollar slice some time ago. It's okey pizza, rather gummy crust and mass produced with no place to sit inside. It's near Cooper Union on the Astor Place stop on the 6 train.
Whoa! Those are some awesome deals. And I thought I had it good in Midtown last week when I found happy hour sushi - a whole bunch of dishes for $3.
happy hour sushi? where? thats such a great deal...so is the $1 pizza. Its $3.50 in Midtown...why?
Great photos. This is either cool or scary -- can't quite decide. But here's what I want to know, Ming: Did you eat any of this stuff?
(I'd also love to know how you make your photos big like this!)
1§= One croissant or a baguette ! I'd like to have suchis for 1§, here you have a coffe for 1,50§ !
In Ibiza, 1$ ... a little bottle of water, some bread, or a coffee.
Imagine, a newpaper costs 1,10€ ..
:S
Love the shot, the $1 signs, the life, the people.
I tried the $1 pizza on St. Mark's Place a while ago, and while I didn't expect much, it wasn't horrible. I mean, it isn't great New York pizza, but it is hot and filling and probably as good or better than the average pie in most American cities.
I haven't seen the $1 felafel, though, and I'll definitely skip the $1 sushi.

Can't buy much with a buck here. Is the pizza worth a dollar Ming? Hope I can find some 1 Euro croissants in Paris!

A "buffet" of dollar meals... hmmm....I would try the pizza. Nothing in Anchorage Alaska for $1 except for McD's Dollar Menu.
We have dollar stores in BC and they carry all kind of food and spices. Everything for a dollar.
You need to be careful about cheap food because you don't know where its been and why they can sell it so cheap.
Have a great deal cheaper. Why is there a sale? More expensive than pizza here.
Perfect!
nothing at all in Norway... ha ha
They call them Credit Crunch Menus here
That's just too funny!
Man, even in Japan it's hard to find $1 sushi. Okey, we have the 100Yen sushi for a slice. Yep, a slice. With tax it's 105 Yen each. Let's see, $1=98 Yen. Wich one is cheaper? Oh, I'll leave you to do the math.
Nowhere .. there's a BurgerKing on Broadway at 83rd but I've never been inside nor paid attention to their menu .. now of course I must ...
Ohhh I wouldn't mind the pizza slice, although I'm not sure how big it would be?
US$1 = AU$1.40 ... so for $1.40 in Australia you would get...err, not much!!! Foodwise I couldn't name a single thing, not even from McDonalds! OH! Hang on I know! At work you can get a packet of Juicy Fruit or a packet of P.K for AU$1...for AU$1.40 maybe a packet of chewing gum? Boy, that's sad.
