Prometheus! Who? Prometheus!

His name is Prometheus and he sits on top of a rock overlooking the ice rink at Rockefeller Center in midtown. He is probably the second most photographed statue in New York City, after the Statue of Liberty, of course.

So is second best good enough?

I think so, the backgroud is spectacular in its own way and you can get closer easily! Nice shot.

Nice shot , i like the myth of Prometheus but where is the eagle eating his liver ;( so cruel !)I admit i prefer to see him stoling the fire ;)

It's a beautiful statue, so unusually golden! ...but I really like the cop: I think he adds to the shot as a popular US character!

Hi Ming!
Stealing the fire was a great achievement!! ;)
Wonderful, the lesson from street art!!

Meanwhile my India 2008 is coming to its end at Blogtrotter. I know you’re getting a bit tired, but there are still some marvels to come ;). Look forward to reading your comments! Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Really enjoyed the posts from spain and the recent street art.

I worked for a while right across from the golden boy for a while. Have you ever sought out the other mythological figures at the Rock? Lots to see.

Hi Ming!
Love this golden fellow.
Why is it snowing on the first day of spring!
Greetings.
Will there be a blogger get together soon?

I've always loved the myth of Prometheus and I think it's appropriate that he's gold.

In his case its a good spot to be in .. winter he is entertained by ice skaters, in summer by drinkers/diners .. and inbetween he gets ohhed and ahhed over...

I wonder if he gets a new fresh coat of gold paint every spring?

Second is fine.

I've always wondered who cleans that thing.

You mean, it's really there? It's not just a movie prop?
