How Many Dogs Do You See??

On my way home from work earlier this week, I bumped into this professional dog walker in my neighborhood. His job was to take these dogs out for their daily walk so they can "do their business" and get some exercise and fresh air.

Dog walking is a professional job in New York City, believe it or not. Some dog walkers do make quite a handsome wage. After doing some research on Craig's List, I found out that the going rate for dog walking is $15/day/dog for two 15-minute walks a day. Some higher end professionals charge up to $500/week/dog although they tend to limit the number to two to three dogs per walk.

The person in this photo has quite a number of dogs with him. Can you count how many dogs he is walking?

Yuk !!! Does he have to pick up their "business" as well???

It's almost like a portable doggy day-care. Those dogs can socialize as they get their exercise.

anon - Yes, he SHOULD be picking up the "business".

annie - Yeap! The doggies get to socialize as well. I bet it feels like a school trip for them.

This person appears to be directly responsible for 8 canines...and maybe that tag-along rat wearing what looks like a soft body cast...

Just a question: how does he do to prevent them fighting???

Haha~nice capture. Remember this NYT article you mentioned? It says:
Most dogs with one human: In New York, money buys anything, including the guy or gal who comes to your house, picks up your dog and drags it and a bunch of others to the park. Absolute minimum: four dogs.
Your pic could be a candidate winner!

Hmmm looks like 9 k-9s?

You specifically took this shot with nine of them, so we can play with words? :-p

chris & deb - Yes, the last one is a rat and the rats in NYC are that big. Really!!

alice - That is a good question. I think most of these dogs have been socialized so they are not vicious. Besides, I don't think the walker will take a mean dog. Or he will charge extra to walk that one dog alone.

fay - You are right. Most dog owners say the limit is four dogs per person.

melting pot & keropok man - There are eight dogs and a BIG RAT. :-)

There is a professional dog walker who lives in my building. She also takes care of cats & other pets in between the walks.

She wears a massive keyring at her waist, laden with keys to all the best homes in the neighborhood.

No idea how much she earns, of course, but she seems to be doing very, very, very well.
