Manhole Cover 2

Here is the second photo for my manhole cover series. This one in the East Village has an interesting but distinct design on it. I always assumed the designs were the somewhat consistent or similar since there probably aren't too many manufacturers out there making these sort of things. But apparently, I'm wrong. The ones I have photographed have been all different.

This weekend I plan to go out and photograph as many of these covers as possible to see if there is a consistency in design or if it is all random.

Have a good weekend.

This is actually very attractive. In the portal I thought it was some sort of plate.

I also thought it was a decorative plate, Ming. I know you're going to have a blast on your man-made man-hole-cover tour! You have a great weekend, too.

A very beautiful one and a great idea for a series. Next time I must have a look at the ground to see whether we have some interesting ones, too. Yours looks like a mandala with those ornaments.

I think you will find them all different. At least the ones here where I live are different.

Cool. In England many of the old Victorian coal hole covers in front of houses were stolen by criminals for sale to antique dealers. That's "caste iron history" man, so you cannot deny it.

Greetings, Ming.

Hey, good luck with that!! I'm curious to know whether there's one company out there that has a monopoly on the manhole covers all over the U.S.

It's an interesting manhole photo you have there.

It would make nice decorative plates haha...

And I thought a manhole cover was a manhole cover! Looking forward to seeing the results of your mission.

If you find one that has Neenah, Wisconsin written on it, be sure to post it for me. I once thought they all came from the Neenah foundry.

Check out the "manhole cover" group on Flickr... I have quite a few shots that I've contributed onto that group!
