Hula Hoop Dancer

I was at Washington Square this weekend for a live concert by Buzzuniverse when I saw this girl dancing with a hula hoop to the music. Notice the fence on the right. There are major reconstructions going on at Union Square including the relocation of the famous fountain in the middle of the park. Local residents are up in arms over the move accusing the city of dubious intent.

So have you ever danced with a hula hoop?

I had a hula hoop when I was a kid. . . .LOVED the stupid thing. All the kids in the neighborhood had them and we played with them all summer long one year.

I used to love hula hooping as a kid - I don't think my hips could keep up anymore unfortunately! Why ARE they moving the fountain? Will I still recognise Union Square on my next visit? It looks like a lovely day in NY in your pic.

I read Eat, Pray, Love a couple months back now - isn't it wonderful? I especially loved the Eat part when she writes about all the delectable Italian food she devours...I feel like pizza as I type! Peter Moore also released another book called Vroom by the Sea if you're interested :o)

I don't think I can keep a hula hoop up long enough to dance! Hahaha!

I think the girl's gorgeous though—looks like she has some Indian blood. And I love her tie-dyed pants!

cela revient à la mode ? j'ai essaye une fois, mais vraiment trop nul ;o).
J'aime bien les peintures derrières.

this is fashionable? I tried once, but no one really too o).
I like the paintings behind.

Washington Square was having major work done when I visited about 4 years ago. Is that still part of the same deal I wonder, or perhaps something new?

I never got the hang of the hoop. Had one, as I remember, but it spent most of it's time down around my heels.

I sincerely hope that the intention really is only to make the Union Square even nicer!! ?

The hula hoop, yes! a few decades ago! Maybe I should try again?

Gosh, I remember when hulu hoops first appeared in stores and we got some for our kids who developed the right kinds of moves to make them work.

Your photo brings back lots of memories. Of the hoop madness and then the art part. I don't see a Rembrandt anywhere.

I was quite a good hulahooper back in the Dark Ages... would like to try it again but I haven't got a hulahoop! It would probably take me a while to get back into the "swing"!

I'd scare people if I did it now...

I like how the hoop is swinging one way, and her hair is swinging the other way. I must confess, I was a failed hula-hooper as a child.

Wow, that is a great shot of me! I love Hula Hooping and surprisingly only taught myself six months ago. I was hula hoop challenged as a kid as well. Hula Hooping is great exercise and always leaves me smiling. There are videos and classes available to help learn hoop dance. Many thanks to BuzzUniverse for supplying an endless amount of excellent dancing music.

Oh my, yes! What a blast from the past. Hula Hoop was quite en vogue when I was young.

I wonder if hula hooping is a sport version of belly dancing :D
