Daylight Moon

Even though it was only 5:30 PM last week, the moon was already out in full glory. This photo was taken on St. Mark's Place near 3rd Avenue in the East Village.

So how is the weather in your hometown?

Peep Show

These kids were peeking into the store window of the Virgin Megastore at Union Square yesterday. The video they are watching is a new comedy that has just been released on DVD. I think the advertising campaign for the DVD release is pretty brilliant.

No, I'm NOT GOING to ask if anyone of you have been to a peep show. So no question today.

NB: Sorry for the blurry photo. It was hard to focus when the temperature is below freezing outside.

Houston & Mercer

This beautiful building is located on the northeast corner of Houston and Mercer Street in SoHo. I took this photo because of the amazing details on the walls. They don't make them like this anymore.

So what are you plans for the weekend? The weather is supposed to warm up a bit in NYC so I hope to go out and take lots of photos. My archive is running a little low of photos.

No Horn Blowing

Impatient NYC drivers have a tendency to use their car horns excessively. There are several neighborhoods that have special ordinance against using the horn unnecessarily. I posted a street sign from East Village over a year ago and here is another one found in SoHo.

If I were the Mayor, I would institute a new city regulation that would charge driver $0.25/per honk after the first 10 honks each month. It will definitely help close the budget deficit we are facing right now.

If you were the Mayor, what would you do?

Ice Soccer

This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago when we had another snowstorm. I was walking to my local diner for brunch when I saw these guys playing soccer in the snow. The concrete park usually looks gray and depressing but the blanket of snow changed the entire scene.

So when was the last time you went out and play in the snow?

Snowflake on my Scarf

It snowed slightly on Friday afternoon as I was heading into the city and a perfect little snowflake fell on my scarf. I quickly took out my camera and carefully snapped a macro-shot of it. How beautiful is that snowflake? The other white spots are the not-so-perfect snowflakes.

So has any random incident of beauty happened in your life lately?

Flushing Chinese New Year Parade

The Chinese New Year parade in Flushing, Queens on Saturday included a dozen or so lions and even a dragon. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a good shot of the dragon as it danced past the crowds. Here is a collage of three lions from the parade.

So how was your weekend?

Lieges a.k.a. Belgian Waffles

I had one of these lièges, an ultra-sugary Belgian waffle, at Petal Belle in SoHo a couple weeks ago. It tasted great with a strong cup of coffee on a cold winter's day.

So what is your drink of choice when it is cold outside?

Calexio Carne Asada

The vendor of this food cart, Calexico Carne Asada was setting up his business on Wooster Street when I took this photo. If the food tastes as good as the design of this cart, I will definitely want to try some of it.

So where do you go for take-out (food)?

Old & New

The building on the right is the Flatiron Building that was built in 1902. The glass and steel building on the left is a newer construction from post-1970's, I think. The new building has central air and the older building does not. Notice the air-conditioner units sticking out of the windows?

So how old is your home?

Another Snow Day

We are expecting over 3 inches (7.6 cm) of snow in the morning. I'm hoping (praying actually) for a snow day so I don't have to go in to work. I want to sleep in till 10 AM and have a lazy breakfast at the local diner.

So what would you do if you had a snow day or an unexpected day off from work?

Keith Haring Grafitti

This graffiti is actually a re-creation of Keith Haring's work on the original site (wall) located on Houston Street near Bowery. According to a NYTimes article, the original graffiti has faded away and this was actually a 'paint over' to commemorate the artist's 50th birthday in May 2008.

So how would you like to be remembered when you are gone?

Lunar New Year

These are Lunar New Year decorations that are sold in Flushing, Queens. It is Lunar New Year today so I'm wishing everyone a very Happy New Year. And may the Year of the Ox bring you and your loved ones a lot of happiness, good health and prosperity.

So what would you like to see in the year ahead?

Snowy Tracks

No , it didn't snow today but it was cold enough to feel like it. This photo of the #7 subway track was taken a couple weeks ago after an overnight snow storm. Everything looked clean and white.

So how is your weekend going?

Faema Espresso Machine

This fancy espresso machine at La Colombe Cafe on Church Street below Canal Street in TriBeCa makes pretty good coffee. Or maybe it is the beans that make the coffee. Regardless it is a sight to behold.

So what brand of coffee do you drink at home?

Scale

This weighing scale caught my eye recently. It isn't an antique scale but for some reason, it looks like it is from a different era.

So do you prefer contemporary designs or antiques?

Tugboat on the East River

This little tugboat toots along the East River with the big boys, like the Staten Island ferry, tourist cruise ship and other gigantic carriers. In the background, you can also see masted boats and water taxi.

So do you toot your own horn?

Approaching Times Square

This is the view looking north towards Times Square on Broadway Avenue in midtown. The photo, from my archive, was taken sometime between Christmas and New Year. I haven't had a chance to go out to take new ones yet.

So how has your week been?

Chasing Pigeons

This kid was chasing after pigeons at the Brooklyn Promenade. He had a great time. The pigeons, not so much.

So what or who have you chased after?
