Traffic on Queens Boulevard

This photo was taken from the elevated train station on Queens Boulevard near my apartment. This is the view of the north side of the street and we have a small movie theater, a couple of sushi restaurants, a number of 24-hour Korean grocery stores and a huge $1 store.

What is your favorite store in your neighborhood?

Lafayatte & Canal

This traffic light post at the corner of Lafayatte and Canal is covered with numerous street signs. I thought the structure was interesting because the it resembles a fork on the road -- do you continue in the same direction, turn left or turn right?

So have you ever come upon a fork on the road in your career? What did you do?

Coffee Shop & Bar

This Brazilian restaurant simply known as Coffee Shop is located right next to Union Square on 16th Street. It is a favorite hangout of locals and tourists alike because the food is great and the atmosphere is eclectic. Most of the waiters and waitresses here are struggling actors and supposedly, Sandra Bullock was one of them, before she landed her first major movie role.

So do you know or are you related to anyone famous?

Cold Wet Winter Night

I got back from Montreal last night to a cold wet winter weather like this. This photo was taken a couple weeks ago in SoHo.

So what is the weather like at your hometown?

January Theme Day: Best of 2007

There are so many photos to choose from but I chose this because (1) it is very New York City, (2) I love night photograhy, and (3) I just love this photo for its color and composition -- personal bias, of course.

Upper East Side

Here is a view of Upper East Side (looking northwards) from the corner of Madison Avenue and 72nd Street. The street is empty because this photo was taken on a Sunday morning at 10 AM in the morning. I think half of the city were still in bed.

So do you usually sleep in on Sunday mornings?

N.B.: I am heading to Montreal for a short impromptu vacation. I will try to keep the photos coming whenever possible.

Midtown Traffic

Midtown traffic at night can still be pretty busy in Manhattan. It seems like everyone was either going home from work or going out to dinner. This photo was taken at 58th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison.

What time do you usually get home from work?

Vesuvio Bakery in SoHo

The Vesuvio Bakery, on Prince Street between Thompson and West Broadway, has been in business for eighty years. It was serving Italian style baked goods and great coffee way back when SoHo was considered an undesirable commercial warehouse district. It is amazing that the bakery is still here.

Okay, enough about the photos. What goodies did you get for Christmas? I got some movie passes/coupons, subscriptions to various magazines and a box of chocolate.

Merry Christmas 2007

I ran out of Christmas photos after posting them over the last couple of weeks so I'm using this beautiful bouquet of flowers instead.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Starry Starry Night

These thousands of sparkling lights are part of the decorations in front of Cartier, the luxury jewelery store on 5th Avenue and 52th Street. If you look upwards, it almost looked like the sky was dotted with millions of stars.

So have your ever wished upon a star?

Tree of Steel

This steel trees sculpture by Roxy Paine is one of three such structures that were installed at the Madison Square Park on 23th Street and Broadway.

So do you know what you are getting for Christmas this year?

Christmas Tree Vendor in SoHo

This photo was taken at the same park where the Ring Dome by Minsuk Cho was installed two months ago. The park is actually a small plot of concrete island bordered by Spring Street in the south and the apex of Cleveland and Lafayatte Streets on the east and west.

The weather this week has been exceptionally beautiful -- it has been dry, cool and sunny. I hope you have a beautiful weekend too.

Union Square Holiday Market 2

Here is another photo from the Union Square Holiday Market on 14th Street and Broadway. It is less than a week before Christmas so everyone is doing their last minute shopping.

So what do you plan on doing on Christmas day?

Sugar Plum Fairy

This little sugar plum fairy was on one of the store windows of ABC Carpets at Union Square. I like the simplicity and color scheme of the window decoration.

So what is a sugar plum fairy? I mean, how is she different from all the other fairies in the gnome and goblin world?

Early Dinner @ Blue Smoke

I went to the doctor's office for my annual medical check-up yesterday and was pricked, pulled, yanked and fingered (you boys know what I mean) all within the matter of minutes. And he didn't even buy me dinner or say thank you.

So to get over my feeling of rejection, I treated myself to a nice dinner at Blue Smoke, a kitschy BBQ joint in Murray Hill, the neighborhood northeast of Union Square. The baked beans were mediocre at best, the hush puppies were dry and cold, and the BBQ ribs, although meaty, were not falling-off-the-bone delicious. I was disappointed again.

So what is your comfort food?

Self-Portrait

I cannot help it. Every time I walk by something shining, I have to take a photo of my own reflection on it. So here is another self-portrait.

When was the last time you took a photo of yourself?

Even Cowgirls Have the Blues

This is the front window of a restaurant in the Village called, Cowgirl that is located on the corner West 10th Street and Hudson Street. I have walked by it many times and heard the recordings of Patsy Cline blaring through the doors. So I thought it was a lesbian bar. Then last weekend, I noticed the beautiful decorations on the window and decided to take a peek inside. The place turns out to be a family-oriented restaurant that serves southern food. How wrong was I?

So have you misjudged the character of someone or something recently?

Rockefeller Building & The Christmas Tree

Here is another photo of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree from a different angle. The building on the right, 1 Rockefeller Center dwarfs the Christmas tree.

So how is the weather like in your city?

Mid-Month Theme: Subway Day

It is mid-month subway theme day again. We decided we were going to post subway signs in our cities. This photo was taken at the Prince Street subway platform in SoHo. Here are the people participating in the mid-month subway themes:

Otto Enoteca II

This photo was taken at Otto Enoteca just as we were seated, before the food and drinks arrived. Once the food hit the table, I'm was too busy eating to take any photos.

No question tonight. I'm too cold, wet and tired to think of anything intelligent to ask. Maybe you should ask me questions instead and I will try to answer them.
